The three sisters they called them in school, I always wondered why when we describe something in Ireland we say 'she'? Well it wasn't for years later that I realised it is because when we describe something that carries, then we say 'she'! Now in today's world we need to be careful because we do not want to upset people but that is why we sometimes call cars or rivers, she! She is a fine river! She is a fine car! Because they carry something, like a car that carries people and a river that can carry fish etc etc... So the Suir, the Nore and the Barrow are rivers in the south east coast of Ireland. Long forgotten by some in Ireland as Salmon rivers but when you do the research these rivers were once the best in the country. I always wondered if the reason is that some of our best rivers are on the north west coast of Ireland because the salmon get a clear run into the estuaries? If you think about it. Salmon have an awful longer migratory journey around the coast to get to the three sisters then say salmon in the Moy do. That is just us assuming so, in today's world we have people so educated that they would have to do a year's study to prove that point but for me it makes sense. There are other factors but its great when you still see a few good Salmon come out of these rivers. We need to be more proactive with our watercourses here in Ireland. Here in my local town of Tralee our river that runs through Tralee, the river Lee, gets polluted all the time but it never gets any protection. A few years back on Christmas day some arse hole decided to clean out fuel tanks and polluted the river and killed fish, no prosecution though, I rang the IFI and the council they found fish dead but nobody was held liable. Another fish kill in the river clashlehane river which runs through manor west retail centre killed hundreds of fish, again nobody held liable. I will put links at the bottom of the post to all fish kills on the river lee. But here are some of the big Salmon from the three sisters!
