The World!
Recently a huge cruise liner docked just outside Dingle Bay! The boat was called the world and is the first residential cruise liner ever to be built. On board you can find 165 apartments and they range from 3 million up to 15 million . You can buy an apartment and actually live on the boat for as long as you want. You can leave whenever and party so long as you have the money to do so. So what's the story with this boat, and why was it docking here in dingle? With an annual revenue of 50 million did anybody actually visit Dingle Town? Did they spend a few pounds? I did my best to find out but this boat and its residents are a secretive bunch!
The World Cruise Ship |
The MS World was built in 2002 at the cost of 266 million dollars. Its was built in Norway by the Fosen Mekaniske Versteder boat building company and was the world's first residential cruise liner. The length of the ship is 643 feet and width is 95 feet. The overall weight is 43,188 gross tonnes. It has a crew of 280 and has a maximum capacity of 200 residents. The World Resident Holdings are the current owners and are based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida the company has an annual turnover of 662 million. So why did the MS World come to ireland? Any why to dingle?
Nice view! Ms World style. |
The MS world plans the year in advance and in the sail plan for 2022, northern Europe was on the agenda, the planners don't want to always go to popular posts and locations but also take in lesser known places like Dingle. I have it from a well known source that a huge draw was Dunquin Pier for the ship and for the staff and residents. The shops and atmosphere of Dingle town is world renowned at this stage but even for the residents of MS World they found prices very very expensive and it seems that was the only downside to some of the residents that came ashore. Sounds crazy to think that even these people with millions to spare found it expensive but maybe this is why they have money, maybe they are penny smart, pound foolish!
