Refused Fish Counter Data Not Good For Wild Salmon in Ireland

With at least three different FOI requests been denied by the Inland Fisheries Ireland on data required to study Salmon numbers on the river Maine in county Kerry, I have come to conclusion that the only way forward is complete transparency. Some people might have heard of the river Severn in the United Kingdom. Please watch this video on their fish pass and how transparent that is.

Data gained by a state body should be made unavailable to the public. I have been denied on grounds that if data known will then be used to somehow damage the stocks on the river Maine and Brown Flesk. My opinion on all this is complete corruption. I also ask anglers sending back logbooks to please fill in Sea Trout caught as I know for certain Sea Trout are counted as Salmon. Last year 30 Sea Trout were counted on the river Maine fish counter, that figure is not accurate. When you have a state body like the IFI using inaccurate date to keep a commercial fishery open then what confidence does this inspire in our minds. Tight lines..
